Scholarship FAQ

  1. How much is the scholarship for?
We award one $250 scholarship every year for each state. That means we give over 50 scholarships.
  2. What is the word count requirement on the essay?
There is no set word count requirement on the essay. If you are going to write something long(we think over 1000 words is long), make sure that it is going to hold the readers attention throughout the entire essay.
  3. How do I know that you received my entry?
We send out a confirmation email to everyone who submits an application. To ensure that you get it, be sure that you have your email set to accept all emails from the state-scholarship.com domain and you check your bulk or spam folder. If you are positive you did not receive it, go to the Check Status page and we will be able to tell you if we got it.
  4. What is the deadline?
We absolutely must receive your application by midnight, pacific time on May 1st, 2007. Please do not email us and tell us that you were having computer issues and you were unable to submit it. You have plenty of time.
  5. Will my winning essay be posted all over the internet?
We do like to show off your work so yes, we will post the winners essay on this site.
  6. Do you send the money to me or my school?
To be fair to everyone we do mail the check to the school unless there are some unusual circumstances.
  7. I would like to send you copies of all my awards and recommendation letters, where can I send them?
Well, to be honest with you, you can't. It is much more creative to incorporate your accomplishments into your essay rather than send us a ten pound envelope.
  8. When do you announce the winner?
The winner will be announced before the end of May and we do send out an email to everyone who applied with the information.
  9. Why do you have ads on this site?
Giving out a state scholarship for all the states can get pretty expensive and having ads that are generally targeted towards something a student would be interested in helps ensure we can continue to give out these scholarships for years to come.
  10. Ok, you did not have the answer to my question, what do I do?
You are in luck, just click on the contact us link on the left side of the page and you can ask us. We try to get back to you within 24 hours.
